Joy of first Fly

Air Asia in Cochin

Air Asia in Cochin

Air ticket was with AirAsia and we were flying from Cochin. We reached Cochin International Airport around 2.30 PM as the flight is at 5 PM. Check-in , baggage handling and security check was a smooth affair as we could finish everything within 45 minutes. We exchanged some Indian rupees and changed to Malaysian ringgit at the federal bank foreign exchange counter inside Cochin international airport. Exactly at 5 PM flight took off from cochin. All the 3 first time fliers ( My father, Mother & Daughter) were equally excited when Airasia Airbus A320 finally took off from run away and started flying.

The low cost carrier AirAsia is very good in that category. Eventhough it lacks a good leg space everything else in the flight was good. We have ordered some meals additionally through their website and they serverd the meal first for the people who have already booked. You have an option to buy on-board but that will cost you bit more. Food was decent and service of cabin crew was excellent. They gave the Malaysian immigration papers to be filled and we filled all the papers as soon as we got it and kept it ready along with passports. Another good thing i like about airsasia is they sells bus tickets from LCCT termainal to Kulalumpur city and also Malaysian sim cards on board. Since  TravelGoogy package includes all our transport we suppose to get a car transfer from airport to city, hence i was not that interested in bus tickets but i saw lot of people buying the same. The sim card was a realy nice one, as you need to just fill a form and give your passport details and pay RM 9 to get a SIM card. The instructions to activate the card as soon as you reach KL airport is included in the card pack. i bought a sim card and put it in my mobile and kept it ready.  20 minutes earlier than scheduled, at 11:30 PM local time we landed in Kulalumpur LCCT terminal which is almost 60-70 KM away from KL city. After finishing immigiration formalities and collecting our luggage we move to the exit gate and TravelGoogy arranged driver was waiting for us at the exit door with a play card with our name written on it.  He was very polite and took us to the hotel which we are going to stay for next 3 days, Hotel Citrus which is in middle of the town. It took almost 45 minutes to reach the hotel from airport.

Hotel Citrus, KL

Hotel Citrus is an excellent 3 star hotel and entire stay there was a pleasent one.  We reached hotel around 1:15 AM in the morning and reception staff helped us to check in to the hotel and they also gave us the full itneary for next 3 days which is going to be provided by TravelGoogy’s malaysian partner. Room was a decent double bed room with TV.  The receptionist told us that breakfast will be served free of cost in the hotel resturant from 8 AM to 10 PM. As we were very sleepy and our next day program starts at 10 AM we all gone to bed immediately by saying we will be up by 8 AM to be ready and have our breakfast by 9 AM.

The most important fact was we got our rooms facing famous twin tower!!! so if we just move our curtains it was the direct view of twin tower!! what a wonderful sight!!!

The buffet breakfast served next day morning by hotel citrus was an excellent one with lot of dishes. You can choose from array continental, Asian & Indian spread. We all had a great break fast and by the time we were finishing our break fast the driver came and told that he is ready to go and our first destination was Kulalumpur Birds park - word’s largest covered bird part which is kind of inside the city!!!

DAY - 1

Birds Park - Kualalumpur

We reached birds park in 20 mintues and driver left us at the entrance by saying another driver will come and pick us at entrance exactly 1 AM. The ticket was bit expensive (RM 38) but it was pretty much worth watching all those lovely creatures… please find some wonderful photos below.

The days was pretty hot out there ( 37c & 96% humid) and we all were pretty tired after initial 2 hours. The one important thing we forgot to carry was water. The water inside the part was very expensive. 500ml bottle was cost RM 6 where outside a 1.5 Litre bottle will cost you only RM 2.25 . So the thumb rule is carry lot of water when you roam around KL and dont buy anything inside the park carry small snacks and lot of water to park. We went to see the bird show which is happening inside the park at 12.30. the show was 30 minutes duration and it was just amazing how they are training those birds all those tricks…… here are some photos…

We called up the local operator and told them that we will be 30 mintues late to come out from the park as we all were very tired and decided that even if it costs more we need to have some food and juices. We all had some heavy snacks and juices and by 1.30 we get in to the waiting car outside the park and one of my close friend who is working in KL also joined us.

Kualalumpur City Tour

The afternoon itinerary for the day was KL city tour and the driver first took us to Merdeka Square also known as independence square where Malaysian Independence is declared in the midnight on August 31, 1957. 95-meter flagpole, one of the tallest in the world and 100 year old buildings are the main attractions in this place.

Then the driver took us to King’s Palace knows as Istana Negara . eventhough entry to palace is not allowed to visitors, the gate is huge photo spot for tourists. The traditionally dressed solider and horse mounted guard make this place very attactive.

Then we moved to Kualalumpur Tower ( Also know as Menara Kualalumpur), one of the symbols of kualalumpur. This 421 meter tower is fifth largest telecommunication tower in the world. You will have a great panorama view of the city if you took the visitor ticket and go up to the top of the tower. This tower contains a revolving resturant which we slowly rotate. We ended up having our late lunch in one of the indian resturants located in the basement of the tower.

Then the driver took us to some choclates and leather factory outlets, there were demo sections for tourists to explan how the process is happening in those factories. The items were very expensive so we didnt by anything from those outlets.

Then finally driver took us to world famous Petronas Twin Towers ( Also known as kualalumpur Twin Towers). The entire look was absoultly majestic. If you stand in front of it and look upward you will be wonder how this might be built, is it built by man-kind ? such a wonderful sight….. we spend quite some time there by just sitting around and taking some photos. My cousin who was working in KL also joined me there and we decided to say good bye to the Driver as we decided to go some shopping and roam around the city with my friend and cousin. by 4.30 it started raining heavily in KL and locals told us that typically other than june and july almost everyday evening you will have rains in KL!!! Wow!! i just love rains….. but that bring some thoughts in my mind, if they have rain every day how come they are able to maintain such wonderful road without any patholes. In my home state kerala, officials and government says bad state of the roads are beacuse of the 6-7 months of rain we have in kerala.. then how about KL ??

We visited Low Yat Plaza located in Jalan Bukit Bintang which is a biggest IT and electronics mall in Malaysia. It was a wonderful experience, seen lot of indians, pakistanis do business there. After doing some more shopping  in near by malls we catch a taxi and headed to hotel. That was the end of a wonderful day in KL.

DAY - 2

We all woke up at 7:30 AM and ready by 8:30 AM and headed toward hotel resturant for break fast. exactly at 9:30 AM driver was at hotel lobby waiting for us. Entire 2nd day programme was a trip to Genting highlands . Genting is Malaysia’s low-budget, family-friendly, sanitized attempt at Las Vegas . It has casino’s where you can gamble legally in malaysia, amuesment park etc. Its situated at an altitude of 1800 meters above sea level on the top of a hill. The driver dropped us at the skyway entrance and gave us the tickets also and told us that we can go up by skyway cable car and evening by 6 PM he will wait in the entrance of the amusment park on the top. since it was sunday there was a huge waiting line to get in to cable car and when were waiting in line for our turn it started raining also… finally we couldn enter in to cable car…..

Genting Skyway, located at the Kuala Kubu Bharu, Selangor side of Genting, Malaysia, is currently the world’s fastest and South East Asia’s longest cable car system. Its lower station is located near Gohtong Jaya, and its upper station is located at Highlands Hotel of Genting Highlands Resort. The view from the cable car is breath taking one…. this was one of the most memorable moments for us. eventhough it was raining and there were fog all around we still could enjoy it…… here are some snaps

Genting Highlands

There was a casino, 6 big hotels and one golf resorts awaits you in highlands. You can see huge crowd all around the place in genting… we gone to small casino which is meant for kids first and have  played some games there… since it was heavily raining we could only do that in the morning session. by arond 12:30 we had lunch in the KFC located there and proceed towards amusment parks… there were plently of rides, shows all around…. its absoultly a entertanment city.. since that day was mothers days there were lot of shows with  mothers day theme. Here are some photos of genting outing….

By 6 :00 PM we went out and found the driver waiting for us in the entrance. We requested him to drop us to china market insted of hotel so that we can do some shopping and roam around the city.

Petaling Street ( China Town ) , KL

China Town is the place you should look for some cheap shopping. dont expect the item to be on top quality but you get items for the price you pay. all from china… my mother bought some leather bags , me and my wife bought some t-shirts and key chains from there. by 8:30 PM we took a taxi and headed towards our hotel.

After getting fresh we had dinner in the hotel itself. We first thought of going to a pakistani hotel nearby but there was huge crowd assembled there as the hotel owner was shwoing pakistan-newzland Twenty20 match live there :) . The dinner was good and we all gone to sleep.

DAY - 3

Mono Rail

Mono Rail Station

Mono Rail

Mono Rail

There was no particular programme planned for the day as we need to leave to airport by 12 PM. We decided to have a early breakfast and try the KL monorail and do some pending shoppings. We gone the mono rail station near to he hotel and took the ticket and gone to a place called little India. This you can see almost all shop names in English and Tamil :) We bought some choclates from there and catch a taxi and gone to low yaat plaza again to buy some electronic stuff which we couldnt by on first day. We were back to hotel by 11 PM and packed everything and be ready for our check out from hotel. exactly 12 PM the driver came and we checked out from hotel and started our journey back to LCCT terminal KL International Airport.  The entire process in KL airport was smooth and we started our fly back to cochin exactly at 2:50 PM local time. We reached cochin exactly at 4:30 PM local time. That was the end of a wondrful and hassle free journey…….

Few Suggestions to fellow travellers from our own experience

1) Plan for atleat 5 days trip. its too short to cover even only KL in 3 days. Anyway you are going all the way there why dont you spend some quality time over there ?

2) Carry lot of water in bottles whenever you go out in KL. its pretty humid out there and the places you visit will charge you a lot for water.

3) Try to avoid wearing ornaments when you go out.. theft is a common affair in some parts of the city.

4) Try the local food.. if you are going to have indian food there in KL also why to travel all this way :) try different things…

5) There is really nothing much to shop in KL if you compare the prices in India.

6) wear shoes if you want to get in to casino in Genting, its a must.

A Word of Thanks to TravelGoogy.com

It was a wondefully execued vacation for us as at any part of the tour we never faced any problem. We were really anxious about what happens if nobody is shows up in KL airport when we reach :) .. everything was arranged nicely and we never had any tention moments during the entire trip. Eventhough the package was not enough to cover everything in KL and around it was real worth for the money paid. If known earlier, might have spend something extra to extend the package… Thank you travelgoogy…. will touch base for another one next year…..
